The box of Thin Mints sitting innocently by my side on the bed, has no idea it’s about to be consumed with the glass of milk sitting on my bedside table. Together they prophesy a little jump in the weekend lull we’ve had. It’s been a good lull. One of those that requires only the littlest of things to spice it up – like Thin Mints. I had another one of those back to the future moments where I flashed back to myself rocking an infant Jacob and daydreaming of when my baby boys were toddlers and they’d wake up Sunday morning, transfer their warm bodies to our bed and we’d lounge around together, no agenda, just the sweet lull of weekend and us four following along. It’s rare, but when it occurs, I know to take mental snapshots, sit very still and let the pause in constant motion and me being there be enough. Like big-foot sightings, no one really believes you, even with the blurry photos to prove your story, so just sit still and take it in.

Speaking of prophesies, the past week told of early Summer sunshine and perfect days for racing matchbox cars on the patio, but it failed to mention the return to Winter this weekend would bring. Just goes to show, can’t trust ‘em all. We bundled ourselves up and mostly stayed inside, sipping on tea and using the chilly wind as our excuse to play indoor hide and seek. We’re a pampered people, deeming 40 degrees to chilly to take the children to the park.
I’ve decided that this year, we will plant and we will reap and as a way of encouragement, our front bush busted out the biggest party of pink blooms. Maybe we’ll start small, with a new plant here and there, but I’m determined to grow something this Spring. I had great success with the cactus plants we bought from Walmart last year, but I’m assuming that doesn’t really count for a green thumb.

Jacob has a dramatic bend in his personality, so when he ran screaming through the house, “LOOK! All the colors!!” we reacted at a snails pace, thinking we’d find a line up of his cars. No, that boy used his dramatic flare just right. A prism definitely calls for a theatrical first act followed by an encore. There is nothing that warms my heart more, than watching my babies taking notice of the little things in life. And really, nothing warms my heart more than watching Josh help them take it all in.
So it began and ended mostly like this. A lull of house-chores and family moments and a messy living room with little things like prisms and Thin Mints to spice it up. I do love a good lull.
How was yours?

/ February 26, 2012Jacob and his prism story reminds me of Chase and his shadow. This week he has decided he is going to wake up at 5:30 am ( this was not great for me, i am really useless before 8 am), so sitting like a zombie in the dark, staring at him, i noticed he was playing very curious with something on the carpet. I had opened the blinds so there was just enough early dawn coming through, and he had noticed his shadow following him…he even waved a few times at his new friend. definitely made me smile and it seem not so bad to be up
Love your posts and stalking your adorable family through your blog (Stalking in a totally non-creep-o way i swear!!)

/ February 26, 2012so wonderful to see little ones take in something brand new to them. it makes me wish that I would still react the same way when I learn something new.
Our weekend was way too short. Husband worked too much overtime for my liking…

/ February 27, 2012Oh man…prisms! Jacob’s response is so cool. Reminds me of that scene in Pollyanna where she hangs them all over the grouchy old man’s house and turns his life around.

/ February 27, 2012No agenda sounds great to me! I love all the pics! What a sweet weekend. While there’s still sunshine left, make some prisms with some CDs. =) And if the rain comes? http://susan-caplan.suite101.com/spring-rain-art-project-a98480
We had bought 5 boxes of Girl Scouts Cookies. We shared 2 of them. We kept the other 3, but are willing to share if we have visitors.
One of them is Thin Mints, and then my mom gave us some more Thin Mints. I think their my girls favorites. It was our dessert for lunch today. =p

/ February 27, 2012What a beautiful post! I absolutely love that he noticed the colors/prism! I don’t have children so I can only imagine how precious it must be to see them react to the small stuff.

/ February 28, 2012Sounds like a great weekend. We have had our prism up in the kitchen for a couple months now, and Zia still loves the spray of colors on the floor, wall, or herself. I love how kids go wild over that kind of stuff, too!

/ February 29, 2012Sounds like wonderful pace and activities for the weekend! Sometimes when it’s sunny in Seattle the wind and weather are really cold so we take in the sun through the windows and drive cars around the house, which is what we did this weekend. I also attended a bridal shower and had a good ole time eating and laughing with some wonderful women!
It’s girl scout cookie time?!! Must take cash to the grocery store and stock up on thin mints!
