House and Home is a new feature on the blog. I love being able to create a home for my family, whether it’s cooking a special meal, home decor or in keeping simple traditions. I love hearing how other wives and mothers do it to, so welcome Claire and thank you so so much for sharing!
I’m so excited to be over here today! Jodi’s blog is one of my favorites, so it really feels like an honor to be a part of her little spot on the internet. You can usually find me writing about my husband and daughter over at Beaktweets. I’d love for you to come say hi!
Jodi asked me to write about what I do to make my house a home. We have just moved across the country from Boston to the San Francisco bay area and I’ve been busy trying to make our new house feel like home. I’ve done lots of things like make crockpot meals, set up all of my daughter’s toys, put out our comfiest bedding and hold on to family traditions like neighborhood walks, but hanging pictures was the thing that made the biggest difference.
Before I hung the pictures, the walls were bare making our home feel empty and lacking the coziness I desire. Putting up pictures changed everything. It’s not just because the walls aren’t bare anymore, it’s because of what the pictures represent. All of our memories.
I hung our wedding and engagement pictures in our room, right next to my side of the bed. As I fall asleep at night and wake in the morning, I think about that time and how excited we were to start our life together.
The picture wall in our living room holds pictures of extended family on both sides. Our daughter meeting her great-great grandfather. One of the first times we captured our daughter’s smile. A date night celebrating our six month anniversary.
In the dining room we have more wedding pictures and pictures dating back to high school and college. Prom night together. A beach day. And our first trip to a pumpkin patch with our new baby.
Pictures make me feel at home. They take me back to cherished times and remind me of how far we’ve come. There isn’t a time I look at these pictures and fail to feel blessed. My blessings are plastered all over our walls as a constant and happy reminder.
I started reading Claire’s blog a while ago and turns out, with their recent move to California, we might actually get to be real-life friends! Thank you again Claire, I loved it!
